Biology professor to appear on National Geographic's Wild Chronicles

RELEASED: July 24, 2008

DANVILLE, KYDr. Paul Sikkel, visiting assistant professor of biology at Centre College, will be part of a National Geographic Wild Chronicles documentary "Secrets of the Coral Reef," the headline feature for the episode.

The episode will begin airing nationally on PBS stations on July 30 and will run for about a month. Eventually the story will cycle through MSNBC and will be available in podcast form through the Wild Chronicles' Web site and through iTunes.

In March of this year, Rich Blundell from Omniscopic Productions documented Sikkel's research during an expedition with Earthwatch (the world's largest environmental volunteer non-profit organization) in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Sikkel's research examines how parasites, the fish hosts they attach themselves to and the cleaners that remove parasites are affected by changes in the reef environment.
