Education
The purpose of the Education Program at Centre College is to provide study for undergraduate students in effective teaching including practical experiences in the classroom and other educational settings.
Overview
The program mission is for students to develop a greater understanding of and appreciation for the complexities of teaching and learning and, as alumni, to lead lives of learning, leadership, and service as effective educators. The education minor is designed for students who seek preparations for a career in K-12 teaching and those pursuing majors who plan to work with children or adolescents—particularly psychology, religion, or sociology.
Students who plan to pursue a career as a teacher may want to choose a major that can lead directly to certification. For example, students interested in teaching high school mathematics may want to choose the mathematics major.
Curriculum
The education minor at Centre consists of six courses. Depending on the institution where you plan to seek certification, some minor courses will count toward the partner institution’s requirements.
